Naturalisation. English language requirement. Exemption because of age
Normally, if you want to apply for naturalisation as a British citizen, you must have sufficient knowledge of English language. But, exceptionally, you may be exempt from the knowledge of language requirement because of your age.
The caseworker has discretion to waive this requirement if, because of your age, it would be unreasonable to expect you to meet it.
The requirement must be waived if you are aged 65 or over, and should be waived if you are aged 60-64 and the time needed to reach the required standard means you would then be aged 65 or over.
The requirement will not normally be waived on the basis of age alone if you are under 60.
